For those who attended last Friday’s (10/21) planning meeting, thank you for taking the time to participate.
Many of you have expressed interest in playing an active role in the PDA, and now is your chance! We’re looking for people to join the PDA’s standing committees to help make things happen. This is a great way to develop your organization and communication skills, as well as a way to connect with other Rutgers postdocs.
Here are the committees we have thus far:
- Professional Development Committee (Chair: Frank Kung, Co-President) – The Professional Development Committee is dedicated to helping postdocs enhance their skill set beyond their scientific and disciplinary training by organizing lectures, workshops, and the annual Postdoc Symposium.
- Communications Committee (Chair: Itzamarie Chevere-Torres, Co-President) – The Communications Committee is responsible for disseminating up-to-date information to postdocs through various platforms, including (but not limited to) the PDA website, monthly newsletter, social media, and email listservs. The Committee is also responsible for maintaining the PDA website and actively promoting postdoc achievements across the wider Rutgers community.
- Social Outreach Committee (Chair: Ellen Rubinstein, Co-Vice President) – The Social Outreach Committee is dedicated to building a stronger postdoctoral community and engaging postdocs in life across and outside of the university. Committee members build bridges between departments and schools and work toward increasing opportunities for postdocs to contribute to the local community through service activities.
- Bylaws & Elections Committee (Chair: Slim Karkar, Co-Vice President) – The Bylaws & Elections Committee is responsible for creating a dynamic set of bylaws that outlines PDA infrastructure and ensures the PDA’s continuity over successive generations of postdocs. The Committee reviews the bylaws annually to make necessary revisions. The Committee is also responsible for engaging postdocs in the electoral process every spring, appointing outside arbiters (i.e., members who are not running for office) to advertise upcoming elections, create voting forums, and ensuring the fair and orderly process of transfer of power from outgoing to incoming Executive Board members.
If you are interested in participating in any or all of the above committees, please fill out your name and email on the Google sheets below.
For the Professional Development Committee: If you are interested in helping with the Postdoc Symposium, we’ll be holding a planning meeting on 11/4 at 12:00 at V14 in the RWJMS Research Tower. Please fill out the Eventbrite registration below and let us know if you can come! Even if you can’t, we’d still love to have you on the committee, so please still fill out the Google sheet.
Thanks again, and we hope to see you soon!
